Native Inspiration
This body of work combines Rebecca's interests as a Botanical / Zoological illustrator with her fascination with Archaeology and the richness of Native American culture.
Throughout their long history, those ancient artists were inspired by the wonders of nature around them, by both the vistas and intricacies of nature. In a traditional yet unique fine art style, Rebecca combines their ancient handwork and artifacts with the wildlife that inspired them into rich still life paintings that are intricately accurate yet hold their own as fine art.
About the Artist
A love of the natural world and a fascination with its intricacies has always been integral in Rebecca Riel's work. Her career as a professional Illustrator and Senior Artist / Art Director has honed her abilities to capture nature's light, shape and forms, whether it be in expansive vistas or the delicate minutia of an insect's wing.
Landscapes
Rebecca is deeply drawn to the early California Impressionists, with their love of light, rich colors that combine for a heightened realism. Her landscapes capture the ephemeral changeable nature of light, capturing the brisk feeling of an incoming storm, the smell of far-away places in the wind, the rain in distant sage. She loves the quality and changing light that clouds bring, they add richness and depth to the horizon.
