We think of the Grand Canyon from it's famous vistas along the precipitous edge, awe inspiring and huge.  But what did the first visitors see from a distance?  A gorge, like so many others they saw and crossed -- but this one was soon to change their world.  So wide they could not go around, cliffs so deep they were nearly impossible to scale, with a world at its base completely different from that which was above.
